President's Message
by Lion Mary Flexhaug
President Alix Lions Club
Welcome back to a new year of possibilities. I am excited about our 'start up' and hope you are too.
My goal (with your help) is to develop and promote visibility within our community, and to plan interesting meetings that will be fulfilling. "We Serve" is out motto, of course, but I believe that we also need to serve ourselves. Hopefully, we will look forward to our gatherings with new enthusiasm as a result of what we bring to them.
This year marks our 36th charter anniversary, and it would be wonderful to mark it with several new members. I challenge every9th)one to search our new/old possibilities and bring a guest. Maybe you can think of something we could use as an added incentive (other than we need new blood!)
I also challenge you to support Lion Cathy in her efforts to present a fun newsletter for you. As I said, with your help, it will be your newsletter and you will look forward to receiving it.
(Note from editor: Lion Cathy here, I would just like to reiterate that this is YOUR newsletter and thus encourage you to make every effort to send in submissions whether it be a joke, telling us of your last vacation, an important piece of information, or a cute picture - sharing yourself with others is a blessing.)
![]() Speaking at the 1925 International Convention, Helen Keller, the noted American author who was both blind and deaf, challenged Lions to be "knights of the blind on the crusade against darkness."
Lions answered "yes" and ever since, blindness prevention and service to the blind has been Lions highest service priority.

Thanksgiving
by Lion Cathy Perry
Thanksgiving is a secular holiday celebrated in Canada on the second Monday of October 9th) and in the United States it is observed on the fourth Thursday of November (23rd).
There are many reasons to be thankful in our lives. But what, as a Lion, can we be thankful for?
Besides the obvious - the fellowship, serving our community, the challenges of keeping ahead of that bank balance as the pleas come in - we can be thankful for having been asked to be a Lion in the first place.
Without that most important question we would not know each other, nor celebrate the wonderful feeling as we fulfill those pleas and the pride as we continue to serve.
As with all that we are thankful for, we have an obligation to share our abundance and wealth with our family, friends, co-workers, neighbours, and folks around us everyday - ask them this Thanksgiving to become a Lion. Celebrate the Pride on the Lion.
